HIMaLivE – Human-Machine Interfaces for Measurements in Living Environments is a joint research laboratory between CNR-STIIMA and the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (DIETI) of the University of Naples Federico II.
The goal is to promote scientific research and support industrial innovation through a collaborative model that leverages shared resources, skills, and infrastructure.
HIMaLivE was created to address the challenges of digitizing living environments with an interdisciplinary and human-centered approach, developing assistive technologies and solutions to improve health, well-being, and quality of life. The laboratory integrates artificial intelligence, extended reality, and neuroengineering to create innovative tools for prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.
A distinctive feature is the use of applied metrology to ensure the reliability, transparency, and explainability of experimental results and artificial processing. Particular attention is also paid to assessing the impact on users, to ensure safe and ethically sustainable solutions. The Laboratory consists of all the instrumental resources available at the two organizations to support collaborative research by teachers and researchers from both parties, also for the benefit and service of their respective territories. In addition, the parties undertake to collaborate in joint participation in competitive programs at regional, national, international, and EU level.
The Laboratory has two locations: the “Lecco Headquarters,” located at Via Previati 1/E, Lecco, and the “Naples Headquarters,” located at Via Claudio 21, Naples.
Prof. Pasquale Arpaia is the scientific director. The project managers are Dr. Marco Sacco (CNR-STIIMA) and Prof. Egidio De Benedetto (DIETI-UNINA). The scientific committee also includes Prof. Francesco Isgrò (DIETI-UNINA) and Dr. Ing. Sara Arlati (CNR-STIIMA).
